By accessing or using any tool or page on litedata.co.uk or its subdomains, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, you must not use this platform.

2. About LiteData

LiteData is an independent open-source project operated by an individual based in the United Kingdom. It is not a registered company. The platform is maintained on a best-efforts basis with limited resources.

LiteData does not represent, speak on behalf of, or have any formal affiliation with NHS Scotland, Public Health Scotland, the Scottish Government, or any other public body whose data is made accessible through this platform.

3. Permitted and restricted use

✗ Restricted use

  • Commercial use, including use within commercial products or services, without prior written agreement
  • Reselling or licensing access to LiteData tools or outputs
  • Automated bulk querying or scraping beyond normal research use
  • Any use that misrepresents the source, accuracy, or nature of the data
  • Any use that violates applicable law
Note on scientific and institutional use: Scientific research, peer-reviewed publication, and non-commercial work carried out by public institutions and registered charities is unrestricted. However, this does not extend to building derivative commercial products or services — including those offered by academic or non-profit entities — without prior written agreement with LiteData.

4. Data sources and accuracy

All health and statistical data presented through LiteData tools is sourced from the NHS Scotland Open Data platform, published under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

LiteData maintains a local copy of this data, synchronised on a weekly basis. As a result:

5. AI-generated content

Responses generated by LiteData tools are produced by an AI language model (Mistral AI) based on structured database queries. These responses:

LiteData accepts no liability for decisions made on the basis of AI-generated responses. Users are responsible for verifying any information against primary sources before acting upon it.

6. Intellectual property

6.1 LiteData software

The source code for LiteData tools is published as open source on Codeberg. Licensing terms for the code are set out in the repository. Use of the code is subject to those licence terms.

6.2 NHS Scotland data

All NHS Scotland data is published under the Open Government Licence v3.0. You are free to use, adapt, and redistribute this data provided you acknowledge the source and comply with the licence conditions. LiteData claims no intellectual property rights over NHS Scotland data.

6.3 LiteData platform

The LiteData name, visual identity, and website content (excluding data and open-source code) are the property of the LiteData project operator. Reproduction requires prior written permission.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

LiteData is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or non-infringement.

LiteData makes no warranty that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

8. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, LiteData and its operator shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from your use of or inability to use this platform, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or decisions made in reliance on information provided by this platform.

This limitation applies regardless of the form of action and whether LiteData has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

9. Service availability

LiteData is maintained on a best-efforts basis. There is no guarantee of uptime, availability, or continued operation. The platform may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time without notice.

The platform depends on third-party services including Mistral AI and NHS Scotland open data infrastructure. Disruption to these services may affect availability.

10. Governing law

These Terms of Use are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Scotland. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.

If you access this platform from within the European Union, you may also have rights under applicable EU law that cannot be excluded by this clause.

11. Changes to these terms

LiteData reserves the right to update these Terms of Use at any time. The date at the top of this page indicates when they were last revised. Continued use of the platform following any revision constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
